The
collections of the International Helmet Museum are articulated around
the omnipresent theme : the protection of the face and the head, that
is to say the face and the skull. This theme represents the vital lead
of the museum.

The
helmets presented to the public will illustrate the evolution
of the researches of Man to prevent, even limit, the wounds of
the skull because many times they are fatal. |
With the time, this will of protection has been extending to the
face. During the First World War the wounds of the face took a
dimension never unequalled at this time, as much in quality as
in quantity. To prevent them, the glasses and facial screen appeared.
In half a century they became widespread.
